Collaborating to Share Information and Services across Governments & Jurisdictions
This session will cover enterprise architecture from a state government perspective in the United States. Current economic and social pressures are driving government toward the pursuit of innovative delivery processes and organizational structures that involve “joining up” with other jurisdictions. This presentation will include an emphasis on interoperability (the sharing of information and services) within and across the states. “Enterprise Architecture (EA)” provides an operating discipline for creating, operating, continual re-evaluation and transformation of an “Enterprise.” In the United States, there is a new emphasis on cross-jurisdictional arrangements and consideration of “Inter-Enterprise” business and technology solutions that cut across agencies, divisions, and jurisdictions involving states, counties and cities. This presentation includes the notion of how EA acts as a comprehensive business discipline that drives enterprise investment in all dimensions not just Information Management and Information Technology. Note that EA is a core process in COBIT 5.

ITSG-33 - A New Framework for Auditing in Security
With today’s dynamic threat environment and Government of Canada (GC), and Provincial Governments fiscal constraints, IT security can no longer be an afterthought, but rather needs to be a vital component in both departmental and IT project plans. One of the key enablers to successful security implementations is the assurance of the compliance and application of relevant standards and guidelines. The specialised nature of information technology (IT) audit and assurance and the skills necessary to perform such audits require standards that apply specifically to IT audit and assurance. Information Technology Security Guidance-33 (ITSG-33), IT Security Risk Management, A Life cycle Approach, is a new security guidance document from CSEC and TBS that aims to standardize Certification and Accreditation (now called Security Assessment & Authorization) across government and to provide common taxonomy of security controls. This session will introduce this document and how it can help ease development and security of our infrastructure and systems.

Location: Royal Canadian Air Force Mess, 158 Gloucester St., Ottawa, ON, K2P 0A6
Date: January 16, 2013
Registration: 8:00 – 8:30am
Session and Q&A: 8:30am – 10:00am
